Thousands of girls are given in child marriage every day. Child marriage ends a girl’s education, perpetuates female poverty and female inequality, and threatens girls’ health, safety, and wellbeing. Poverty is one of the biggest drivers of child marriage and other exploitation of vulnerable girls.

Speak Up defends impoverished girls in Bangladesh who are vulnerable to child marriage and other exploitation. Our Girls Education Program (GEP) empowers girls and young women to stay out of child marriages, and to stay in school all the way through college graduation. Through the GEP, girls and young women are becoming educated, empowered professionals dedicated to serving their communities. The GEP is changing individual lives, elevating the status and wellbeing of girls and women, and transforming whole communities.

The GEP continues to grow in size and strength, with more than 2,000 girls and young women in 34 villages and urban slum communities now involved and receiving tutoring, school supplies and academic and career guidance.
